First Time Campers

Greenwood Trails specializes in the first time camper

Our First Time Camper Program ensures that campers feel comfortable and at ease from the moment they arrive and throughout their entire time here. Whether it is a camper’s first time at any camp, or just the first time at Greenwood Trails, our relaxed & friendly atmosphere and thoughtfully tailored transition program allow new campers to quickly feel welcome and included in our camp family.

Family Handbook: Before camp begins we send home a comprehensive handbook to all new camper families. This handbook includes all the information you need to get ready for an amazing summer at Greenwood Trails. Everything from what to pack to how to prepare for the first time away from home is covered. Our handbook is carefully designed to help new campers and their families feel knowledgeable and ready for the exciting summer ahead!

Camper Profile: We want to know all about YOU! Before the summer starts we ask campers to tell us a little about themselves before they get here. This helps us get ready to give each camper the best experience possible. This information is shared with the cabin counselors so that they can help make sure the transition into camp is tailored to your camper’s needs.

Welcome Phone Call: Before camp begins, every new camper and family will receive a phone call from a member of our Greenwood Trails Senior Staff. We will help get you ready for the summer and answer any questions you may have. And we’re always available any time you want to call us--at Greenwood Trails it is our pledge to be here for you!

Progress Phone Call: Within the first 72 hours of your camper’s arrival at Greenwood Trails, we will call every new camp family to let the parents know how their child is doing. You can also feel free to call us anytime during the summer to get information about your camper.

Staff Orientation: The staff at Greenwood Trails have the training, commitment, and nurturing personalities needed to handle any camper issue or problem that may arise.
They are hand-picked for their compassion in working with children, and go through a week-long orientation to prepare for the summer. In addition to our outstanding counselors, our experienced Senior Staff are always there to oversee camp and make sure every camper’s experience is positive.

Above all else Greenwood Trails' prevailing culture of inclusion and friendliness ensures that new campers will always feel welcome. There’s a spirit of helpfulness from our campers and counselors that makes new campers quickly feel “at home” and ready for a memorable and fun-filled summer adventure!
